Nordic Dancers to celebrate 50 years
This summer the Decorah Nordic Dancers will also be celebrating their 50th anniversary at Decorah's Nordic Fest. There have been more than 400 dancers and musicians, proudly entertaining and representing the Decorah community at home and around the world over all these years. “In fact, it might be said, that the Nordic Dancers, has been one of the major factors in making the Decorah Nordic Fest what it has become today,” said Ann Kephart, one of the directors of the Nordic Dancers. The current and past directors are inviting all alumni back July 28-30, 2016 to help celebrate these 50 years of Nordic Dancers at Nordic Fest. There will be the opportunity to participate in the Saturday parade, an informal "mixer" event at Upper T-Bocks in downtown Decorah following the parade, from noon to 2 p.m.; and an opportunity to dance (if so inclined) both in the parade, and at the Saturday night Nordic Fest Alumni Event at the courthouse square from 7-8:30pm. Reunion organizers plan to design Nordic Dancer Alumni buttons made with group year to recognize alumni dancers throughout the Fest. Organizers are reaching out to former dancers, “If you plan on being in Decorah for the Fest this year, please email: ann.kephart246@gmail.com so that we have an idea on the number of buttons to order,” Kephart said. “We hope to see as many of you as possible to make this 50th anniversary a great success.” “Also as a reminder there is a wonderful book that you can preorder a limited edition Nordic Fest 50th anniversary book it includes 22 chapters of Nordic Fest history, a section for you to include your own favorite Nordic Fest memories, and a DVD with archival footage from the first Nordic Fest donated to this special project … as well as a chapter dedicated to Nordic Dancers,” Kephart concluded. Online information can be obtained at www.nordicfest.com/site/nordic-fest-50-book.html; or by stopping at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce office on Water Street.
