Join the women of Dame's Rocket Recorder Consort at Dragonfly Books Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. as they play a selection of 16th century Renaissance melodies.
Composed of local musicians Ellen Macdonald, Suzanne Ernst, Beth Lynch and Elyse Hawthorn, Dames' Rocket performs on wooden recorders ranging in size from sopranino to bass, whose voices blend to create a tapestry of tones.
The group will be joined by percussionist Sharon del Vento as they play dances from the 16th century. The mood of the pieces range from raucous rustic dances to elegant pavannes.
Dames' Rocket has been together with the current members since 2007. They have played for the Burning Bright Christmas concerts and the Hospice memorial services for several years. In addition they have entertained at Musica Dulce, Porter House, Aase Haugen, Lion's Club, Luther College Women's Club, Northern Lights and several other venues.
A reception with light refreshments will follow.
This event is sponsored by Dragonfly Books at 112 W Water Street, Decorah, and is free and open to the public.
