Northern Lights, the women's chorus of NE Iowa, will present a concert of some of their best selections Sunday, April 28, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church at 3 p.m.

The repertoire of this concert was chosen for its inclusion on a professionally recorded CD they are producing, thanks to a grant from the Depot Outlet. Selections include choral works by well-known composers J. S. Bach, Umberto Giordano, Clara Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Aaron Copland, John Rutter, Z. Randall Stroope and René Clausen.

Northern Lights is conducted by Jane Kolarich and accompanied by Linda Gjerdrum.

Some of the pieces feature talented instrumentalists from the community. Appearing in this concert areviolinist Sarah Guhl, trumpeter Brent Dobson, flutist Suzanne Ernst, oboist Janene Leeper, bassoonist Helen James, percussionist Pastor Mark Kvale on marimba and bassist Deb Norland. Professor Laurie Iudin-Nelson will narrate the Russian folk song" May There Always Be Sunshine."

Other guest performers featured at this concert will be some of the many Decorah High School vocalists who received outstanding scores at the Iowa State Solo/Small Ensemble Contest held recently in Cresco. These students are under the direction of Jason Rausch.

A free will offering will be taken to assist with operating expenses of Northern Lights, a non-profit organization. All are invited to a reception immediately following the concert in the fellowship hall of St. Ben's.
