The Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau (WCCVB) is seeking tourism hosts to provide volunteer assistance to guests of Decorah and Winneshiek County.
Volunteers will help serve visitors who call or stop by the Visitors Center by answering questions regarding lodging, restaurants, giving directions and utilizing resources including the county visitor guide, reference guide, business brochures, websites and calendar listings.
The idea volunteer is described as an enthusiastic person who is knowledgeable of popular tourism sites and is looking for a reward of sharing their passion and love for the area.
“This opportunity is not only fun and gratifying; it serves an incredibly important need for our county,” said Charlene Selbee, WCCVB director.
“Hosts will make new friends and renew old friendships while developing their knowledge of Winneshiek County.”
The Bureau will coordinate monthly tours of area restaurants, attractions and lodging establishments so volunteers will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the area. Customer service training for existing volunteers and for first-time volunteers will be held quarterly at the Visitors Center.
“It is important to provide support and frequent training so hosts will be comfortable and knowledgeable when welcoming visitors,” said Selbee.
“Many visitors to Decorah and Winneshiek County have their very first experience at our building: we’d like to greet as many visitors with open doors and personal, friendly service.”
The WCCVB will host a training for interested volunteers Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center.
Seating is limited. RSVP by calling 563-382-2023 or by emailing Selbee at email@example.com to reserve a seat.
To pick up a volunteers application form or gain additional information, call 563-382-2023 or stop by the Visitors Center at 507 W. Water St., Decorah.
