Tom Straube is the newest member of the Spillville City Council, following a special election to fill a vacant position.

There were 82 votes cast: 75 at the polling site Tuesday and and seven absentee ballots cast prior to election day. Straube received 43 votes, Elsie Swehla received 23 and Benjamin VanHorn, 16.

According to Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines, there are no outstanding absentee ballots, contested ballots or provisional ballots, so he does not expect the results to change.

These results will be official after the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors canvasses the results on Monday, March 11.

Straube is the superintendent of the South Winneshiek Golf Course.
