1,860 pound gelding sells for sum of $123

EIGHTY YEARS AGO: A large 1,860-pound grey gelding brought a grand sum of $123 at the Ronan Auction Yard the other day. A crowd of more than 500 farmers was on hand to bid on some mighty good-looking livestock. More than $2,400 was paid in cash before the supper hour. A total of 23 horses were up for sale.
...A library is being started in a small way over at Calmar under the auspices of the Thimble Club.

...More than 25 Decorah laboring men, including 16 members of the American Legion, did some fine work with the flood cleanup last week. Water was pumped from several cellars over at "Goose Island" and over on the flat.
