EIGHTY YEARS AGO: A long experienced banking examiner with the Iowa State Banking Department will be in Decorah soon to examine Decorah State Bank's affairs. The bank is now operating under the restrictions of Senate File 111. It will soon be decided whether or not the bank can open as a bank without restrictions, or if it will be an institution with restrictions, or if the bank should be reorganized all together. The liquid requirement is now much more severe, assuring future values.
...The Junior College for Women held a silver tea last week. A trio, comprised of Helen Hoff, Dorcas Jacobson and Alma Swendson, sang two lovely songs.
...Following the trail of the stork from 1933: A girl, Rosa Beatrice, was born March 20, to Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Lester Bergan of this city. A boy, Benett Edward, was born March 13, to Mr. and Mrs. Benett Arnold Storey of this city. A boy, Lee Donovan, was born March 6 to Mr. and Mrs. Elrick Vangsness of Decorah.
...Earl D. Hines is the new manager of the Chocolate Shop. Lunches and fountain service are being offered.
...A straw vote now shows Winneshiek County residents favor beer more than 3 to 1. The vote here is stronger than the entire state.
...Due to the financial problems facing the country, it has been announced that payment by hospital patients will now be required immediately, unless due to extreme emergency cases...then no patient will be turned down. The public announcement was made by J.A. Nelson, who is the vice president of the hospital association.
