The Festina Parish Center in Festina, was filled with 102 descendants of Frank and Mary (Franzen) Riha July 17, to celebrate the 48th get-together of the Riha clan. Hosted by the Francis and Jeannie Riha family of Waucoma, the reunion included time for sharing stories of today and yesterday as well as enjoying great potluck dishes. Aunt Barbara Jirak's headcheese was a sure winner for those raised on northeast Iowa cooking. The family member blessed with the most years living was James Croatt of West Union, who recently celebrated his 96th birthday. The youngest member was six-month old Emma Sue Riha, daughter of Brandon and Megan Riha of Cresco. Most family members live in Iowa and surrounding states. Frank and Mary (Franzen) Riha raised nine children on their farm on Usher Road outside Waucoma. Frank died in 1959; Mary in 1963. Five of their nine children remain and attended the reunion: James Croatt of West Union (wife Verena Rausch); Barbara of Fort Atkinson (husband Jim Jirak); Leonard of Monona, Wis., (wife Millie Murphy); Francis of Waucoma (wife Jeannie Hoey); and Daniel of Waucoma (wife Shirley Wichman). Spouses of deceased siblings also attended with their family members: Agnes Holthaus Riha, wife of Edward (deceased) of Decorah and Mary McEnaney Riha, wife of Matthias (deceased) of Cresco. Descendants of other deceased siblings also attended from the families of Loretta of Fort Atkinson (husband Alex Rausch), both deceased, and Angela of Milwaukee, Wis. (husband William Brannon), also both deceased. The family of Leonard and Millie Riha will host the 50th Riha Reunion in 2012.
