The descendants of Jacob Young gathered at St. John's Lutheran Church, Locust, for their annual family reunion, Sept. 25.

The reunion was hosted by Marlys and Marland Bjerke, Jesse and LaVonne Young, Phillip and Cheryl Young, Willet and Rhonda Young and Emma Thompson - along with Ron Barth, who was in charge of the program.

Pastors Nancy Solomonson and Ron Barth led the group in prayer before the potluck dinner was served.

Following the meal Ron led everyone in devotions and prayer. Those family members who have passed away in the last year were remembered. Storied were shared of years past and some history learned about family members who owned, lived at and ran the Locust store and post office.

Age groups 50-60 and up were recognized, along with anniversaries and birthdays. The oldest attending was Jesse Young, 93; the longest married couple were Jesse and LaVonne Young (64 years). Lyle Barth, 70, and Brayden Thompson, 5, were having birthdays in a few days.

The occasion closed with the singing of some hymns, accompanied by Kathryn Thompson on piano.

Those attending from Wisconsin (and coming the farthest) were Roger and Darlene Bjerke, of Waukesha; and Angie Hexom, of Milwaukee. From Minnesota were Ron Bath, of Owatonna; Marland and Marlys Bjerke, of Spring Grove; and Marleene Ward, of Mabel. From Iowa were Sharon Headington, of Mt. Vernon; Jesse and LaVonne Young and Phil and Sheryl Young, of Waukon; Maynard and Rhonda Thompson Bryer, Trystin and Brayden, of Cresco; Charles and Arlys Hexom, Vernetta Cline, Mark Cline, Willet and Rhonda Young, Jordan Young and Hannah Hovden, Dennis and Jody Halse, Michael and Michelle, Connie Bolson, Laryl Bolson, Kathryn Thompson and Les Askelson, and Emma Thompson, all of Decorah and the surrounding area.

Those in charge of the 2012 Young reunion Sept. 30, are Curt and Linda Gjere and Dennis and Diane Young.
