Decorah High School has named James Ostlie as the recipient of the Norman C. Bradish Scholarship for the 2012-13 school year.

Norman Bradish created a scholarship to go to a male graduate of Decorah High School who possesses high academic ability and curiosity, is liked by peers and adults, and displays high standards of character. The recipient must agree to attend a college outside the state of Iowa, and it must be a non-religious institution. Also, the student must remain unmarried until finishing his studies.

Although Ostlie has not finalized his plans for college, he is interested in the medical profession, and possibly attending the University of Minnesota. Ostlie has been active in speech and drama, National Honor Society, marketing club, concert choir and athletics. He was named to the All-State chorus three times.

This fall, he was named a first team all-state football player this fall. He also earned honors in basketball and baseball. He has taken challenging coursework at Decorah High School including several AP courses and post-secondary enrollment classes. Ostlie has long possessed an interest in the medical field.

He is the son of Paul and Lori Ostlie of Decorah.
