Applications for Habitat house sought
Monday, April 15, 2013 4:55 AM
Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity is welcoming applications from families interested in the 2013 house being built in Ridgeway.
In order to qualify, families need to demonstrate a stable employment record, live currently in inadequate housing and lack resources for a conventional mortgage.
The need for a decent house is the most important criterion in the selection of a family. Families living in inadequate housing will be given preference. However, the ability to pay the no-interest mortgage is also an important consideration. A third requirement is willingness to partner as the house is being constructed.
Habitat homes are constructed mainly by volunteers and so each adult member of the partner family must contribute 175 hours of volunteer labor. Family and friends may contribute 40 percent of this requirement. Partner families must also volunteer in the construction of the next Habitat Home built.
Members of a family selection committee will visit each family whose application meets the income guidelines. The committee then makes a recommendation to the entire Board.
