The city of Decorah is seeking candidates to fill appointed positions to its various boards and commissions.

Many current positions have terms that will expire at the end of the month and the city is actively seeking candidates for these positions.

"Serving on a community board is a rewarding way to engage in the community and meet new people," Mayor Don Arendt said at a recent Decorah City Council meeting.

"Many young people may find service on a board a great opportunity to meet others with similar interests and to learn more about the community in which they live."

The League of Women Voters has compiled a helpful handbook about board and commission

service and the booklet and an application are available on the city's website, decorahia.org.

There currently is an opening on the city's Historic Preservation Commission. By the end of this month there will be vacancies on the following boards and commissions:

• Board of Adjustment, one vacancy

• Airport Commission, one vacancy

• Tree Committee, one vacancy

There will be two openings on the Human Rights Commission in February.

City officials said they are making every effort to comply with Iowa Code Section 69.16A in regard to gender equity on its boards and commissions. For more information, call City Hall at 563-382-3651.
