For the fourth year in a row, property owners within Decorah will see no tax increase.
At Monday's meeting of the Decorah City Council, the Council unanimously approved the 2013-2014 budget after receiving no written or verbal comment at a public hearing.
According to City Manager Chad Bird, next year's tax asking will remain at $12.54 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.
"The basis for the budget includes an overall increase in the city's taxable valuation of over 4 percent," said Bird, adding the city's total budget is $9,022,931.
"The budget remains pretty flat in terms of new requests. Operationally, the department heads did a great job of keeping things in check and working with a tight belt," said Bird.
Council Member Paul Wanless agreed.
"I would second that and acknowledge Chad and Wanda (Hemesath, city clerk). While it's never easy looking at priorities, it (this year's budget) was certainly a lot less painful than it could have been. They have done a nice job of presenting us with a package that was easy to work through. Thank you," said Wanless.
