In order to provide continuity at Luther College during the search for a new president, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Kevin Kraus has agreed to serve two additional academic years at the college.
President Richard Torgerson recently met with the Faculty Appointment, Tenure and Promotion Committee and also sought feedback from academic department heads.
The Board of Regents is currently searching for an interim president at the same time the search for Luther's 10th president continues. An interim president could serve from six to 12 months.
Torgerson said, with the unanimous support of each of these groups, Kraus has agreed to serve through academic years 2014-15 and 2015-16 beyond his current three-year term, which concludes May 2014.
"This decision ensures continuity in the dean's office as the 10th president is identified and assumes leadership on campus," said Torgerson.
"Dean Kraus's long history and institutional memory will serve the college well during this time of transition. Please join me in expressing thanks to Dean Kraus for his commitment to Luther and his excellent work in this important role."
Kraus joined the Luther College biology department in 1989, focusing on the topics and principles of developmental biology.
