Decorah's J.C. Penney is not on the list of 33 stores the retail giant will close this year.
On Wednesday, the company announced it would close the stores, located in 20 states. The closures will result in the loss of around 2,000 jobs.
"We were happy to not be on the list," said Holly Kruger, who manages both the Decorah and Mason City stores.
"We definitely appreciate people shopping locally and supporting us well," she said.
