Decorah teen in 'fair' condition after Sunday morning crash

A Decorah teenager was listed in fair condition Monday morning after being involved in an accident early Sunday morning.
Kelsey Hovden, 18, Decorah is being treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Miranda Schnitzler, 18, Decorah, at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday. According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Schnitzler was northbound on 253rd Avenue when she lost control of her sports utility vehicle, which entered the east ditch and struck a tree.
Schnitzler and Hovden were taken to Winneshiek Medical Center by ambulance where Schnitzler was treated and released. Hovden was transferred to St. Mary's.
Schnitzler's 2006 Pontiac was a total loss. Charges are pending.
The Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Decorah Police Department, Bill's Towing, Decorah First Responders and Winneshiek County Ambulance.
