Weather pending, contractors at Decorah High School are gearing up to finish the remaining portions of exterior work on the facility.
Building and Grounds Manager Greg Schaller told the Decorah School Board Monday night the roofing contractor will be building new parapet walls at the perimeter of the lower roof, demolishing the existing roof and reinstalling a new roof.
He said the new business lab and adjacent classroom have been completed and are currently being occupied. The science rooms are the only rooms left to be remodeled.
Demolition of the existing study hall has started, and the space will be remodeled into the new art room.
He said work continues on the lifeskills suite, and a damaged roof deck over the new restrooms has been replaced.
The orchestra room has been completed, and the band room should be ready for occupation by April 16.
Finally, the existing roof joists in the practice gym and wrestling room are being reinforced to support new mechanical units that will be placed above them.
So far, the District has paid out $17.1 million of the project's expected $20.7 million expenses.
