Planning for Women's Weekend Out (WWO) has been underway for months and local sponsors of the event are gearing up for a very busy, fun-filled weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13.
This event is perfect for a mother-daughter or sisters outing, girlfriend's getaway, or a time for individuals to shop and be pampered and enjoy quality alone time. There is no weekend registration fee and everybody is welcome to attend.
Coordinated by the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitor's Bureau and more than 45 local business sponsors, WWO is designed to be hassle-free, full of options and above everything - fun.
Phenom, sponsored by Margaret's and Eclips Salon & Day Spa are once again hosting their fashion and accessory showcase on Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Hotel Winneshiek. They will be giving away door prizes totaling more than $1,000. The event is free to attend.
The Opening Party, "Super Awesome Women's Weekend Out Extravaganza" is the premier event taking place at T-Bock's brand new Second Level from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday. The first 100 WWO pre-registered guests through the door will receive a free "swag bag" filled with special items compliments of the weekend sponsors. More than 25 businesses will be set up showing off their wares and giving free demonstrations and consultations. Free event.
Leslie & the LY's is a hypnotic dance music and hip-hop style band. Their songs are humorous and laugh-out-loud entertaining. The show will also take place at T-Bock's Second Level beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday. MOMIX Botanica is a radically innovative dance company that creates a fantastical world out of light, shadow, props and the human body. The show hits Luther College's Center for Faith and Life on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the show are $25 for adults, $23 for 65+ and $15 for kids age 4-18. Call the box office at 563.387.1357. The Style Show Brunch is always a weekend hit. Local merchants will wow guests with new spring arrivals in a runway-style format while enjoying brunch featuring homemade quiche, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit and drinks. The event takes place Sat. morning at Hotel Winneshiek's Steyer Opera House. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the show starts at 9 a.m. Tickets for the show and brunch are available now for $15 and can be purchased at J Tupy's or the Visitor's Center on Water St.
KPVL Community Radio's Spring Soiree will feature live music by Mark Whelan, The Trees, Gabriel Andreas and Beet Root Stew at the Hotel Winneshiek's Steyer Opera House on Sat. from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Drinks, food and silent auction bidding is also available. Tickets are $12 at the door.
Comedy Night is back at The Oak's Steakhouse on Sat. beginning at 8 p.m. John Bush who has appeared on Conan O'Brien, HBO and opened for Howie Mandel at Ceasears Palace and Doug Stone who was recently involved with Last Comic Standing are both making their way to Decorah for a night of bust-your-gut, laugh-out-loud entertainment. Luther College's "Women Faith and Finance" seminar will cover money-related topics to educate, motivate and empower participants. Keynote speaker is Rachel McDonough author of "True Treasure: Giving, Saving, and Spending According to Your Calling." Cost is $25 and includes materials, lunch and refreshments. Winneshiek Wildberry Winery will host a wine pairing workshop Fri. and Sat. at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy food samples as winery staff help participants determine which wine they prefer with each type of food. WWO guests can enjoy wellness classes as well. Winneshiek Medical Center and Discover Happy Pilates and Wellness Studio and are hosting several classes throughout the weekend to encourage movement and pick up health tips. The WWO program guide has complete details each class.
A wine education class, hosted by Rubaiyat is set for Sat. at 3:00 p.m. This exclusive and free class is limited to the first 24 people and preregistration is required by calling Rubaiyat, 563.382.9463.
"Women With Knives" cooking class will be hosted by Dug Road Inn. Chef Ruth Hampton will give introduction to the materials, maintenance and techniques of using cutlery. Sweet and savory treats and drinks will be served. This event is free, but limited to the first 20 people who preregister by calling 563.382.9355.
Trunk Shows, Artist Receptions & Other Goodies
Numerous sponsors are hosting special events to showcase new spring arrivals, new vendors and artists they are excited to feature as well as drawings, free giveaways, special discounts, extended hours and food and beverage samples galore.
"Our program guide is busting at the seams," said Brenda Luzum, Convention and Visitor's Bureau Director. "Our sponsors have gone above and beyond planning special events that women will love. After one glance of what's in store, it will be difficult to say no to this event."
WWO registration is free, but all guests are encouraged to sign up online at www.visitdecorah.com/womensweekendout for a chance to win $100 Chamber Dollars, sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust. Those without access to the internet are welcome to call the Visitor's Center at 563.382.2023 for assistance with sign up. One lucky person will be drawn during the Opening Party, must be present to win.
