Jay Jermier's vehicular homicide trial is now set to begin Wednesday, May 21, in Winneshiek County District Court.
His trial had been scheduled to start last Wednesday, Jan. 8. It's not the first time the trial has been continued. It had previously been scheduled to start May 22, then July 17.
The 45-year-old Decorah man is charged with vehicular homicide/operating while intoxicated in connection with a Sept. 28, 2012 accident that resulted in the death of a Calmar woman. The accident occurred in a Highway 52 construction zone.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Jermier was northbound on his motorcycle two miles north of Calmar at about 4 p.m. when he crossed into the southbound lane, losing control. His passenger, Trish Taylor, 44, Calmar, was killed.
The State Patrol accident report said due to the construction, the road surface was uneven. Jermier was transported by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
