The Decorah Rotary Club's second annual Loop de Loop 5K and half-marathon is Saturday, Sept. 28.
Rotary member Dr. Kelly Reagan of Decorah leads the way as runners take off on the 5K race during the Decorah Rotary Club’s Loop de Loop last year.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. from the Decorah High School baseball field on Claiborne Dr.
Early registration for the 5K run/walk is $25 and can be completed online (decorahrotary.org or www.visitdecorah.com) or mailed to Loop de Loop, PO Box 442, Decorah, IA, 52101. Early registration ends at 4:01 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26. After that, the fee increases to $30.
Half-marathon early registration is $55 through Sept. 20; $65 for those who register the week of the race, Sept. 21-27; and $75 on the day of the race.
Registration fees are non-refundable in the event the race is cancelled.
Runners who wish to run as a relay may do so for the half-marathon, and may consist of up to four runners. Cost for a team is double the entry fee. Each runner will get a dry-wick-style T-shirt, and one timing chip big number will be issued (to be handed off between runners along the course). One waiver will be submitted per team with the team captain's signature waiving liability for all team members. Teams will need to indicate the number of T-shirts required by listing the number next to each size on the registration form.
The course for the half-marathon will proceed from the baseball field to the Trout Run Trail. The 5K will follow a flat course near the Upper Iowa River.
Age groups for the race are: 12-and-under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-45; 46-59; and 60-and-over. Medals will be presented to all half-marathon finishers, and the top three overall male and female runners will receive Decorah Area Chamber dollars of $100, first; $50, second; and $25, third. The top three overall finishers in the 5K will receive medals. There will be no medals for the relay teams or 5K participants.
Racers may pick up their packets at city hall from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, or from 6:30-8 a.m. the day of the race.
Aid/water stations will be located approximately every two miles along the route, and refreshments and snacks will be provided at the end of the race.
