Tuesday workshop offers small businesses info about contracting with governments

Winneshiek County firms interested in learning the ins-and-outs of doing business with local, state and federal governments are invited to a free introduction to government contracting workshop Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Decorah.
Any business that sells or has an interest in selling to the government may want to attend the 6 - 7 p.m. workshop at the County Inn and Suites near the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and Iowa Highway 9.
Those who attend will learn more about:
Suitability for doing business with the government
How to break into government contracting
Key elements of capturing business with government agencies and prime contractors
Types of bid opportunities
Where to locate bid opportunities
The instructor is Julie Fagle, a government contract specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Center for Industrial Research and Service, or CIRAS.
Fagle said those who attend the free workshop will also learn about resources available to small businesses and the different types of small business preference programs. They also will learn about proper registrations, where to identify opportunities and how to market a business to the government.
