The "Blitz Build" for the 2013 Habitat for Humanity house being built by the Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity affiliate is Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17.
The new house is located at 425 Pike St. in Ridgeway. Hours for the Blitz Build are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday. A Blitz Build brings large numbers of volunteers together to build and complete houses quickly.
The basement has been excavated, footings poured and plumbing roughed in. Volunteers are needed to start putting up the walls and trusses. Tools and supervision will be provided. Food will be provided for volunteers during the Saturday work schedule.
Paul and Meagan Sobolik and their daughter, Maycee Mae, will be the new owners of the home. The Soboliks, with friends and family volunteers, will be on hand to provide volunteer labor or "sweat equity" to assist in building the house. Each Habitat for Humanity family is required to provide 150 hours of sweat equity per adult member of the family.
This will be the 27th home built by Winneshiek Habitat since it was organized in 1992. Homes have been completed in Burr Oak, Calmar, Castalia, Decorah, Freeport, Ossian and Ridgeway. For more information, contact Gus Johnson at 563-382-1802 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
