The Upper Iowa Training Club will host a barn hunt at the Danan Lansing
Building at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, Feb. 17 - 19.
The hunt begins at 5 p.m. Friday and at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Barn hunt is a sport where the dogs use their nose to locate a rat in a vented pvc tube in an area of stacked straw. There are three tubes, but only one contains a rat. The handler does not know where the tube is located and has to signal judge when the dog gives indication. It is a timed event, and there are different levels to earn titles. No rat is harmed in the hunt.
"The dogs have a great time using their natural instincts and there will be club members present to answer any questions.
