Three parking spaces in front of 421 W. Water St. will be closed Saturday for a community party in conjunction with the city's Trail Weekend.
Activities are being held throughout the weekend to mark the official grand opening of the Trout Run Trail.
Earlier this month, the Council denied closing the street for the event on a tie 3-3 vote. Monday night, the Council unanimously approved the closure of the three parking spaces from 3-11 p.m.
The event is sponsored the Decorah Chick Hatchery, Fancy Pants, The Courtyard and Northwestern Mutual.
The "400 Block Juggernaut" is a community party to celebrate the trail. Entrance to the event is a donation to the Trout Run Trail. The Courtyard will be offering food and drink specials, and live music provided by General B and The Wiz begins at 7 p.m.
At the Council's Sept. 3 meeting, members expressed concerns that Trail Weekend is also Luther College parents weekend. They said a street closing could prevent students and parents from continuing on Water Street into the heart of downtown.
They said they'd also heard from business owners opposed to the street closing.
Council members in favor of the street closing said motorists could easily navigate around the closure.
