Candidates for Winneshiek County supervisor will face off Thursday, Oct. 11, at a forum sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
The forum is at Valdres Hall of Science on the Luther College campus. It begins at 6:30 p.m., allowing time for attendees to also take in the nationally televised vice presidential debate beginning at 8 p.m.
The following candidates for county supervisor have confirmed their participation: District 1, Bill Ibanez (D), Dennis Karlsbroten (R), and Bob Watson (nominated by petition); and District 2, Floyd Ashbacher (R), John Franzen (NBP), and Rachel Vagts (D).
Other candidates who said they will attended are: District 3, Les Askelson (R) and Dean Thompson (D); District 4, Clark Goltz (D) and John Logsdon (R); and District 5 candidate, Mark Kuhn (D). District 5 candidate, Lonnie Pierce (R), has not yet confirmed.
All candidates will be given 1.5 minutes for introduction. Written questions from the audience will then be accepted, screened by committee and asked by the moderator. Each candidate may respond within one minute. They may also have printed information available outside the forum hall.
There is no cost to attend the forum and the public is welcome. Parking is available in the municipal swimming pool parking lot and the lot behind Preus Library on campus. Some limited spaces are also available near the Sampson Hoffland addition to Valdres.
