BERNIE PHILLIPS, 74, of Spillville, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, in Spillville, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery. Friends called from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Balik Funeral Home, 211 South Main Street, in Spillville, and also after 10 a.m., at the church Monday morning. There was a rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday. Bernie is survived by his wife, Lois Phillips, Calmar; three daughters: Brenda (Keith) Kreitzer, Decorah,; Beth (Art) Perry, Waucoma; and Brooke (fiance, Brent Frana) Phillips, Johnston; two sons, Brad (Lori) Phillips, Decorah, and Bruce (Wanita) Phillips, Calmar; 13 grandchildren: Nathan Farley, Cory Farley, David Kreitzer, Lukas, Trevor, Jarod, Sarah, Jalisa, Tanner and Abby Phillips, Bobbi Jo and Brock Perry and Kaylie Wieden; one great-grandson, Beardon Farley; one sister, Marcella Soukup, Calmar; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Lowell (Sandee) McLain, Spring, Texas; Daryl (Marie) McLain, Cannon Falls, Minn.; and John Wenthold, Hayfield, Minn. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Julia (Frana) Phillips; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Marvin Soukup, Sr., Ruth Wernett, Colleen Wenthold and Milton Stevens.
