Dear Editor:

Instead of voting with 90 percent of their constituents, Charles Grassley and 44 other senators acted shamelessly by cowering to the National Rifle Association by ignoring the demands of the citizens of this country. What influences a United States Senator to vote against the wishes of 90 percent of their constituents?

What was the no vote they cast? They voted against background checks that make it more difficult for criminals to acquire firearms at gun shows or through online purchases. That is the straight forward bill 45 senators, including Grassley, voted no on.

The rest is fear-mongering rhetoric from the leadership of the NRA; an organization in which 76 percent of its own members support this. Who owns these 45 senators, Grassley included? Obviously not the 90 percent of us. Shameful.
