The public is cordially invited to attend three upcoming events relating to the new grand piano which was purchased by donations from the community and delivered to Decorah Lutheran Church on Labor Day weekend.
The dedication will take place during the 8:30 a.m. worship service at Decorah Lutheran Sunday, Sept. 25. The Adult Choir, directed by Kurt DeVore, will sing “To Our Redeemer, God“ accompanied by Jill Wilson on the new piano.
Kathy Murray, the church organist, will also play prelude, offertory and postlude pieces.
At 1:30 p.m. that same afternoon the piano will be featured in a recital by students of local piano teachers Regina Downing, Tom Misseldine and Du Huang. Students are from all levels -- beginners to advanced. Regina Downing and Du Huang will also play selections.
Refreshments will be served in the Social Hall following the recital.
The Luren Singers, the Decorah Chorale and the Northern Lights will present a free vocal concert accompanied on the new grand piano Sunday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. Each choir will perform separately; then the entire group will combine to perform several pieces.
The Grand Piano Project Committee is thankful to all of the individuals, families, and businesses who donated money for the purchase of the piano.
The instrument is a 7’ Model BB Mason Hamlin and was originally manufactured in 1927. It was completely rebuilt this summer by Tom Zasadny of Walker, Iowa, at a cost of $37,500.
All three of these events are free to the general public.
