Three Luther athletes have been named athletes of the week from the Iowa Athletic Conference.

Women's basketball player Taylor Johnson was named the female athlete of the week. A junior forward from La Crosse, Wis., Johnson scored 16 points on 8-of-15 shooting and pulled down 11 boards in a 70-57 win over Northwestern (Minn.) Dec. 7 for her eighth double-double of the year. At 6-2, the Norse are off to their best start since the 2006-07 season.

Johnson is the daughter of Rich and Terri Johnson.

Decorah native Jason Orvis was named the men's swimming and diving athlete of the week. The freshman finished fifth or better in three events at the St. Thomas Invitational. He took fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:03.71), fifth in the 100 backstroke (55.81) and swam the backstroke leg of Luther's fourth-place 400 medley relay (3:41.61). The Norse finished third of six teams at the invitational.

Orvis is the son of Brad and Debra Orvis.

Lisbet Finseth, a senior from Golden Valley, Minn., was named the women's swimming and diving athlete. Finseth placed in the top-8 in three events at the St. Thomas Invitational. She won the 400 IM (4:50.44), took second in the 500 freestyle (5:26.08), sixth in the 200 IM (2:21.27) and placed eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:20.06) for the Norse. As a team, Luther finished third in the eight-team field.

Finseth is the daughter of Chris and Lynnae Finseth.
