Decorah's Nick Nelson closed with an even-par 72 Sunday to help lead the Marquette golf team to a five-shot victory at the John Dallio Memorial.

The MU freshman tied for fifth place overall, one of four MU golfers to post top-20 finishes at the 15-team event, which began Saturday at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.

Nelson tallied a 54-hole total of 225, just four strokes behind individual medalist Kyle Henning of Valparaiso.

Nelson was the top-ranked prep golfer in Iowa, according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard, coming out of Decorah High School under coach Rich Gaard. He was named 2012 3A Player of the Year by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. A four-time first team all-state selection by the Iowa Golf Coaches Association and four-time All-Northeast Iowa Conference selection, Nelson is the son of Andrew and Nancy Nelson.
