The Luther College women's track team was named a 2013 All-Academic team, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Luther was one of 148 NCAA III institutions honored. To earn this award, a track team's entire roster must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.10 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Luther's team GPA was 3.33.
In addition, seven members of the team earned USTFCCAA All-Academic honors. This group included seniors Annie Klepper (Algona), Addy Rickels (Vinton) and Christina Storlie (Decorah); junior Maggie Pierson (Plymouth, Minn); sophomore Leah Broderick (Decorah); and freshmen Jackie Hoyme (Decorah) and Tricia Serres (Platteville, Wis.).
Klepper, Pierson and Serres were members of a distance medley relay team that finished the indoor season ranked 8th in the nation (11:50.55); Broderick and Rickels were ranked 31st and 34th, respectively, indoors in the pentathlon, and Broderick was also ranked 34th outdoors in the heptathlon; Storlie qualified for the Outdoor National Championships for a third time in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:04.23) that ranked 21st in the nation; Hoyme qualified for the Outdoor National Championships in the discus, ranked 12th in the nation (144-9); Serres qualified for both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships, earning All-American honors indoors in the mile, placing fourth (4:50.50), and All-American honors outdoors in the 1500, placing fifth (4:23.46).
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honor, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
