He might not have heard his name called on draft weekend, but that doesn’t mean Decorah native Brett Van Sloten won’t get his shot at playing in the NFL.
Van Sloten signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens Saturday night, following the conclusion of the NFL draft.

College career
Van Sloten is a 6’6”, 300-pound offensive tackle who spent his college career at the University of Iowa. He started every game his final two seasons and was a permanent team captain as a fifth-year senior. During the 2013 season, the Iowa offensive line allowed a conference-low 15 sacks.
Following the conclusion of the 2013 season, Van Sloten was awarded the Hayden Fry “Extra Heartbeat" Award for offensive, a Players Choice Award for offense, was named second team All-Big Ten by the league coaches, honorable mention All-Big Ten by the league media and was third team All-Big Ten by Phil Steele and College Sports Madness.
He was also honored for his success in the classroom. He was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One District VI Academic All-America team and was named Academic All-Big Ten for the fourth straight year.
