It was a good day on the mats for the Decorah and Turkey Valley wrestling teams Saturday at the Flanagan Invite, hosted by Crestwood.
The Vikes won the team title with 222.5 points. Turkey Valley finished fifth with 155.5 points. It's the fifth year in a row Decorah has won the team title.
In total, the two teams crowned three champions, two for the Vikings and one for Turkey Valley.
Viking Kellan O'Shea was the first Decorah winner. At 132 pounds, the Class 2A No. 9 ranked wrestler started his day by pinning Cedar Falls' Nate Llewellyn in 2:47. He picked up a 6-3 decision over Tyler Thomas of Crestwood to move to the finals. He took the title with a 9-0 major decision over John Hageman of Turkey Valley.
Senior Hans Holkesvik also posted a perfect record for the day. He pinned Hayden Herzog of John Marshall in 1:56. In the semifinals he defeated Hayfield's Conner Nelson by a 17-4 major decision. The finals was a 9-6 decision over Mitchell Breuer of Goodhue.
Luke Kuennen, who is ranked No. 9 in Class 1A, was the lone Trojan champion. He moved to 8-0 on the season by pinning Trey Chatman of Hayfield in 40 seconds, taking 51 seconds to throw Spenser Williams of Cedar Falls, then grabbing a 2-1 decision over Decorah's Andy Hovden, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A.
Taking second were John Hageman (TV, 132), Riley Meirick (TV, 138), Eric Buchendahl (TV, 145), Peter Kephart (Decorah, 170), Tyler Hovey (Decorah, 182) and Andy Hovden (Decorah, 220).
