It's now a decade of happy homecomings for the Decorah community as the Class 3A No. 1 Decorah football team (6-0, 3-0) continued its district win streak, this time defeating Vinton-Shellsburg 50-7.

The Vikes have now won 10 straight homecoming games and 15 of the last 17 district games.

So far this year the Vikes have outscored opponents 155-21 in the first half.

Shaky start

Fans might have had a little bit of concern to start the game Friday as it took Decorah over eight minutes to score the first touchdown of the night.

V-S got the ball to start the game, but it was short lived as Josey Jewell recovered a fumble at the V-S 32. From there the Vikes took over, moving into the red zone quickly. However, V-S's defense stepped up, holding the Vikes on 4th and goal at the 1.

"You've got to give them credit. They stood up and held their ground," said Decorah Coach Bill Post. "Our guys adjusted well to it. It kind of got the hair on the back of your neck to stand up a little bit. Maybe that's not all bad."
