The 50th annual South Winn Invite Saturday was a special one for the Decorah wrestling team as the Vikes captured the team title.

Decorah outdistanced Osage by putting up 225.50 points. Osage was second with 206. Turkey Valley finished fourth with 152.5 while host South Winn took seventh with 89.



Three champions

The Vikings had seven wrestlers advance to the championship, with three winning the title.

Ranked No. 10 in Class 2A at 132 pounds, Kellan O'Shea got the Vikings started strong Saturday. He first picked up a 13-5 major decision over South Winn's Luis Uribe. In the semifinals he picked up a close 5-4 decision over Class 2A No. 8 Tad Chapin of Denver-Tripoli. For the title, he defeated Zach Bruns of North Fayette 9-4.

Senior Tyler Hovey (195) made the most of his two matches. After a bye, he threw Osage's Thomas Randall in 2:32. He won the finals over South Winn's Colton Hageman 4-2.

Ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, senior Andy Hovden was also victorious. Following a bye in the first round, he pinned South Winn's Ethan Kipp in 47 seconds. He took the title by winning a 13-7 decision over Osage's Bret Jeffries.
