Decorah High School senior Jacob Drost has been named to the 2013 academic all-state boys basketball team, by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.

Drost becomes the first Viking in 10 years to receive this honor. Andrew Bailey was the last Viking recipient 10 years ago. Eric Svestka was selected 12 years ago.



Requirements

In order to receive this honor, student-athletes must rank in the top 25 percent of their senior class, have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and score at least a 25 on the ACT.

Drost was one of 23 student-athletes selected statewide. The group boasts an average ACT score of 29.5, with a 3.99 average GPA. Ten of the 23 rank first or second in their class. On the court, the honorees average 14.6 points per game.

Drost and the other all-state selections will be recognized at halftime of the 3A state championship boys basketball game Tuesday, March 19, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
