This year's Northeast Iowa girls basketball conference should be tough, and Decorah is hoping to be right in that mix.

With four returning seniors, two of which were named all-NEIC last year, a host of juniors and sophomores and a strong commitment to defense, the Vikes are poised to make some noise in the league.

In charge of putting together the pieces is second-year Head Coach Brigit Storhoff. Assisting her are Cindy Albers, Dale Wilharm and Shannon Quandahl.

In year one

Storhoff inherited a team low in experience a year ago, with just two returning letter winners. The team went 4-17 through the regular season, posting a 1-11 conference record. In the first round of the playoffs they lost to Independence 41-61.

As a team, they converted 365-of-1,140 shots for a 32.0 percent shooting average. They scored 978 points a game (44.5 points) while allowing 54.1 a game (1,191 total). For the year they had 137 assists, 297 steals and 37 blocks. Rebounding the ball, they averaged 22.4 a game, with 176 offensive and 317 defensive for 493 total.

Graduating last year were Katrina Shindelar (6.9 points a game) Hannah Kuehner (5.8 points a night), Kaitlyn Svestka, Molly McDonough, Tayla Begnaud, Olivia Mitchell and Rachel Haindfield.
