Moving out of district play, the Class 1A No. 3 South Winn football team (6-1, 4-0) took Friday night at Class 2A No. 10 Waukon (6-1, 3-1) as a chance to get some underclassmen on the field.
With most of the regulars taking the majority of the night off, the Warriors fell 45-6.
"We knew going in this was going to be a difficult football game. We used this game as an opportunity to play all our kids and take a look at some players in multiple positions," said Head Coach Jason Ohrt.
The Warriors are still in the lead in the district race with a 10.25 points differential. Sumner-Fredericksburg is in second with a 9.25 points differential.
Building a lead
Waukon got on the board first. The second score came when quarterback Joshua Thorson hit the open receiver, making it 13-0 in the first quarter.
Keeping things going in the second, Thorson flipped the ball to Austen Troendle, who dodged Warrior defenders into the end zone and the 20-0 lead. A safety made it 22-0. By halftime, it was 37-0.
South Winn's only score of the night came on a Jared Schroeder rush in the third quarter.
