The Class 2A No. 8 South Winn baseball team (21-1, 10-1 UIC) hit its first bump in the road last week, dropping its first contest of the season.
However, the Warriors remain in first place in the conference.

First split
The first game saw the Warriors battle back before falling 5-2 in Garnaville to Clayton Ridge-Central (20-5, 10-2 UIC). The War Hawks scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. South Winn tied the game in the fourth when a Tyler Numedahl groundout scored Jordan Rommes. The War Hawks again took the lead in the fifth when they scored two runs. South Winn cut the lead in half when Rommes hit a solo home run. The War Eagles put the game away with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
South Winn had four hits, with two each by Rommes and Ryan Hageman.
Trevor Schweinefus suffered the tough loss. He gave up three earned runs on eight hits.
Warrior fans went home happy after the second game as the Warriors won 6-5. South Winn led 3-1 after three innings. The Warriors padded their lead in the fourth when Jared Schroeder smashed a two-run triple. He scored on a Rommes hit. The War Eagles put up four in the bottom half of the inning but never could take the lead.
The Warriors pounded 10 hits. Schroeder had two of them with two runs scored. Rommes, Christian Kleve and Treyton Jacobsen all had two hits, with Kleve driving in two.
Rommes gave up nine hits on the mound, striking out six.
