Four Decorah high school coaches have been honored by being named coaches of the year.

All four will receive their honors at the IATC Hall of Fame Banquet in Ames Saturday, Dec. 8.

Track

Joel Rollinger has been named the Class 3A Boys Track Coach of the Year by the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association.

For the past 27 years Rollinger has been a coach with the boys track program, with this past season being his 11th as head coach. During that time he has helped lead the Vikings to seven conference titles and two state titles in 2004 and 2012. This is the second time Rollinger has earned the state Class 3A Boys Coach of the Year honor, with the last time being in 2004.

Coach Rollinger also serves as an assistant varsity football coach, earning state Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2007, and eighth grade boys basketball coach. He is assisted by Bill Post and Dale Wilharm.

Cross country

Cross country head coaches Cristy Nimrod (girls) and Dennis Evelsizer (boys) and boys assistant coach Brad Johansen were recognized as coaches of the year in Class 3A.

This is the second time Nimrod has earned this statewide honor, after being named State Coach of the Year in 2007 and District Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2011.

Nimrod has been the head girls cross country coach at Decorah High School for the past 11 years. During that time she has led the Vikings to the state cross-country meet nine times, with regional titles the last seven years in a row and conference titles the last nine years. Under Nimrod's guidance the Vikings earned their second state title in 2012, with her first being in 2007, and runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2010. Nimrod has also coached middle school girls track for the past 22 years.

This is the first time boys coach Dennis Evelsizer has earned this statewide honor, after being named District Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2011.

Evelsizer has been the head boys cross country coach at Decorah High School for the past 11 years. During that time he has led the Vikings to the state cross country meet nine times, with conference and district titles the last six years in a row. Under Evelsizer's guidance, the Vikings earned the 2012 Class 3A State Title after a runner-up finish in 2011.He also serves as middle school boys track coach.

Evelsizer is assisted by Brad Johansen.

Decorah High School assistant boys cross country coach Brad Johansen has been selected the 2012 high school boys assistant cross country coach of the year by the Iowa Track and Field Association. This honor is statewide honor that spans all classes.

Johansen has been the assistant boys cross country coach at Decorah High School for six years. During this time, he has helped the boys cross country program earn six conference titles, five district titles, a second place finish at the state cross country meet in 2011 and a state title at this year's state meet. During his 20 years at Decorah High School, Johansen has been the head varsity boys basketball coach and is currently the assistant varsity girls track coach, earning assistant girls track coach of the year in 2011 from the IATC.
