Enjoying the perfect weather, the Decorah girls tennis team traveled south to Independence to take on the Mustangs Monday.

It was a happy bus ride home as the Vikings won 6-3. Several Vikings got the chance to step on the courts.

Senior Claire Breitenstein, winning 8-0 at the No. 2 singles spot, had a solid night.

"Claire had an answer for everything that her opponent tried to do in her singles match," said Berland. "Claire, perhaps, played her best match of the season against a girl who had looked very good in her earlier doubles match."

Laura Munkel, winning 8-5 at No. 3, found her serving stroke.

"Laura Munkel came out of her match feeling like she had played one of her best singles matches to date," he said. "Serving is confidence, and Laura is gaining that confidence at just the right time."
