Decorah grapplers Andy Hovden (220) and Austin Ashbacher (285) join Kellan O'Shea (132) and Hans Holkesvik (152) in the Class 2A consolation bracket at the state wrestling tournament.
Hovden and Ashbacher both lost their quarterfinal battles Friday afternoon.
All four Decorah wrestlers compete again Friday evening. A win means they are guaranteed a medal. A loss ends their tournament.
Hovden (32-6) wrestled Corbin Blythe (35-6) of Williamsburg in his quarterfinal match. With no score after one, Blythe got an escape in the second for the lead. In the third, Hovden escaped to tie the match. However, Blythe scored a take down with time ticking down in the third to win 3-2. Hovden faces Dylan Nelson (39-7) of ADM next.
It went to overtime for Ashbacher (30-6) in the quarterfinals with Chad Pohlmeier (39-2) of Bondurant-Farrar. There was no score after one. In the second, Ashbacher took a 1-0 lead on an escape. Pohlmeier returned the favor in the third to send it to overtime. Ninteen seconds into the overtime match, Pohlmeier got a take down. Ashbacher faces Juan Martinez (31-8) of West Liberty in the consolation bracket.
O'Shea (33-7) battles Levi Gilmore (44-7) of Spencer in the consolation bracket at 132. At 152, Holkesvik (36-6) faces Greyson Doolittle (29-10) of Central Clinton.
