Playing two non-conference games over the weekend, the Decorah boys basketball team (8-4, 4-3 NEIC) picked up two victories.
It was all fast breaks and big threes Thursday night for the Vikes at Postville (6-8) as Decorah won 74-29.
The Vikes never looked back against the Pirates, scoring the first two points of the game. From there, they raced ahead of the Pirates, scoring fast break points after fast break points. At the end of the first, Decorah led 15-7. In the second quarter, the Vikes found their footing behind the line, with Josh Miller heating up. At the half, Decorah led comfortably 39-13.
The show continued in the third, with Decorah emptying the bench while continuing to pound it down the court. The Vikes extended the lead to 64-22 with eight minutes remaining.
"We played good defense and shot the ball well, which were recipes for success," said Decorah Coach Jonathan Carlson. "We were also pleased with our energy and focus throughout the game."
