The potential to put up monster points is there.
With six returning state participants and a host of other athletes hungry to repeat as conference champions, the South Winn boys track team is aiming to post another strong year on the oval.
Leading the charge is Head Coach Scott Conway, who has served as head coach for 11 years.
The Warriors saved the best for last in 2012. With big numbers, the Warriors used the regular season to find the right athletes for the right events. At the Upper Iowa Conference meet, the Warriors outdistanced themselves from the rest of the pack, taking first with 116.5 points. Overall, the Warriors had four events take first place (Colton Hageman in the 100-meter dash, Josh Lyons in the 1600, the 4x100 and the distance medley relay).
At the state qualifying meet, the Warriors finished third overall, sending seven events to state.
Competing at the blue oval, the Warriors picked up points from then-senior Josh Lyons. He finished eighth in the 3200-meter run, then completed his high school career by taking fourth in the 1600-meter run. Colton Hageman took 17th in the 100-meter dash. The 4x800 of Michael Havel, Devin Franzen, Garrett Bohach and Alex Stammeyer finished 13th.
Brant Wade completed his high school career by taking 11th in the high jump. In the distance medley relay, Hageman, Jordan Rommes, Havel and Lyons finished 10th overall. Jared Schroeder, Rommes, Havel and Hageman took 11th in the 4x100 relay.
