They may be not be large in terms of numbers but the South Winn volleyball team makes up for it in talent and desire.

The Warrior spikers have seven returning letter winners, six seniors and a squad looking to make some noise in the Upper Iowa Conference.

They will be led by Robin Gossman, who has 12 years experience at the helm, Darcy Einck, who enters her fourth year with the squad, and newcomer Glenna Munuswamy.



Last year's team

Last year the Warriors had a core group of veterans to count on, along with a large squad of 15 players to count on.

During the regular season, the Warriors posted a 7-3 conference record, good for fourth overall.

In the first round of the playoffs they knocked off MFL 3-0, posting scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-15. The second round pitted the Warriors against North Fayette. The Hawks ended the Warriors' season with a 3-1 win (27-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-19). South Winn posted an 18-13 record.

As a team the Warriors had 777 kills and 2,309 attack attempts. They had 9.03 kills per set. Serving the ball, the Warriors had 1,481 successful serves for a .907 serve efficiency. They also had 199 aces (2.31 per set). As a team they posted 704 assists, 819 digs and 86 total blocks (25 solos and 61 assists).

The Warriors counted on five big seniors - Karissa Knutson (82-for-95 serving with 16 aces), Jenn Panos (95 kills, 11 blocks, UIC honorable mention), Jessica Lensing (146-for-158 serving, 11 aces, 124 assists), Kari Zidlicky (129 kills, 20 blocks) and Morgan Kuennen (167-for-173 serving with 11 aces, 122 digs).
