The cold, snow and strong winds didn't affect the South Winn and Turkey Valley boys and girls track teams Thursday as they took to the indoor track at Luther College for the UIC Indoor meet.

No team scores were kept.

Trojan boys highlights

The Turkey Valley boys team kicked the season off right, posting several strong times despite the weather affecting practice conditions.

"The weather has put us behind in our conditioning," he commented.

Despite the challenges, the Trojans faired well Thursday. Luke Kuennen showed his talent in the shot put. The junior threw 40 feet, 7 inches. Senior Brian Schmitt had one of the best performances in the long jump. The two-time state participant jumped 18 feet, 10 inches.

Nathan Suell had one of the fastest times in the 400-meter dash. The sophomore completed the event in 53.01 seconds.

The 4x800 relay of Nick Meirick, Suell, Ryan Izer and John Hageman made a big comeback in the event, finishing in 9:16.3.
