Playing in front of the home crowd Friday night, the South Winn girls basketball team (3-3, 3-1 UIC) withheld the hot three-point shooting of Clayton Ridge (5-2, 4-1 UIC), winning 56-46.
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, with the Warriors taking a 19-16 lead. In the second, the Warriors continued to put the ball through the hoop, extending the lead to 33-22.
Coming out of the locker room, the Eagles' defense stepped up its game, holding South Winn to 10 points. However, the Warrior D did a number on the Eagles as SW took the court in the fourth quarter leading 43-31.
The Eagles outscored SW 15-13 in the final frame.
As a team the Warriors shot 49 percent from the floor (21-for-43). Micole Lansing had 12 points, along with seven steals. Jenn Panos led the team in scoring with 15 points. She completed the double-double with 12 boards. Brittany Shindelar added 11 points and four rebounds. Jessica Lensing dished out a team-high nine assists to go with eight points and four steals. Payton Poshusta added six points.
The Warriors hosted Kee Monday night. They play against West Central in Calmar Friday, Dec. 14, at 6:15 p.m.
