The Decorah girls basketball team (1-4, 0-2 NEIC) couldn't overcome a deep hole it dug Tuesday night at home, losing to Charles City (4-2, 2-1 NEIC) 50-44 in front of the home crowd.

The Vikes scored just five points in the second quarter and seven in the third to fall way far behind.

Decorah started strong, scoring the opening points of the game. They took a three-point lead at 8-5 midway through the frame. However, they put up just two more in the quarter, going into the break down 14-10. In the second they scored a bucket in the first minute, then didn't score again until the final 60 seconds. Meanwhile, the Comets gradually put some distance between them and the home team, going into the locker room up 26-15.

In the third quarter, the Comets found the basket white hot, scoring 15 points to Decorah's seven to head into the final eight minutes leading 41-24.
