With South Winn holding a two-point lead, a three by Saint Ansgar proved to be the game winner as the Saints defeated the Warriors 52-51 in Calmar in the first round of the Class 2A girls basketball playoffs.
South Winn ends the year 13-8. The Saints, 9-13, move on to face Class 2A No. 5 North Butler tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Greene.
In Saturday night's game, the Warriors looked to be in control to start the game. The Warriors outscored the Saints 13-6 in the first quarter and even led 17-9 in the second quarter before the Saints started to mount a comeback. At the end of the frame, the Saints had outscored the Warriors 16-10 to make it 23-22 South Winn at the half.
