Going on the road to play one of the up-and-coming teams of the conference, the Turkey Valley girls basketball team (4-7, 3-6 UIC) came up four points short Tuesday night in Monona, falling to MFL (8-4, 7-2 UIC) 46-49.
The Trojans cut a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter to make it close.
Both teams stayed close but went on a cold spell during the first quarter, with MFL taking a 12-9 lead. In the second frame, the Bulldogs extended the lead by two more, going up at the half 26-21. In the third quarter, the Trojans again hit a cold spell, allowing MFL to build the lead to 40-31.
"The girls played hard. They just need to find a way to win the close game," said Coaches Dan Stepan and Mike Kuennen. "We continue to get better."
